Topic Shift Detection in Chinese Dialogues: Corpus and Benchmark

Dialogue topic shift detection is to detect whether an ongoing topic has shifted or should shift in a dialogue, which can be divided into two categories, i.e., response-known task and response-unknown task. Currently, only a few investigated the latter, because it is still a challenge to predict the topic shift without the response information. In this paper, we first annotate a Chinese Natural Topic Dialogue (CNTD) corpus consisting of 1308 dialogues to fill the gap in the Chinese natural conversation topic corpus. And then we focus on the response-unknown task and propose a teacher-student framework based on hierarchical contrastive learning to predict the topic shift without the response. Specifically, the response at high-level teacher-student is introduced to build the contrastive learning between the response and the context, while the label contrastive learning is constructed at low-level student. The experimental results on our Chinese CNTD and English TIAGE show the effectiveness of our proposed model

This paper analyzes a finite buffer size discrete-time Geo/G/1/N queue with multiple working vacations and different input rate. Using supplementary variable technique and embedded Markov chain method, the queue-length distribution solution in the form of formula at arbitrary epoch is obtained. Some performance measures associated with operating cost are also discussed based on the obtained queue-length distribution. Then, several numerical experiments follow to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained formulae. Finally, a state-dependent operating cost function is constructed to model an express logistics service center. Regarding the service rate during working vacation as a control variable, the optimization analysis on the cost function is carried out by using parabolic method

Abstract The shield beam is the main load-bearing component of the hydraulic support. The structural optimization design of one shield beam is fulfilled by the response surface method. Using the weight as the objective function, the structural optimization mathematical models of shield beam is set up. The experimental design is performed in the ANSYS software and uniform design. The maximum stresses of shield beam are gotten in the different sizes. The response surface models of design parameters and maximum stresses are fitted by the least squares method. The structural optimization design of shield beam is completed by the random direction method. This research implements the structural optimization design of hydraulic support shield beam in a modern design method, and provides a valuable guidance for the hydraulic support research and development

Huobahuagen tablet improves renal function in diabetic kidney disease: a real-world retrospective cohort study

ObjectiveWe aimed to explore the value of Huobahuagen tablet (HBT) in improving decreased renal function for patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) over time.MethodsThis was a single-center, retrospective, real-world study on eligible 122 DKD patients who continued to use HBT + Huangkui capsule (HKC) therapy or HKC therapy without interruption or alteration in Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine from July 2016 to March 2022. The primary observation outcomes included estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) at baseline and 1-, 3-, 6-, 9-, and 12-month follow-up visits and changes in eGFR from baseline (ΔeGFR). Propensity score (PS) and inverse probability treatment weighting (IPTW) were used to control for confounders.ResultseGFR was significantly higher in the HBT + HKC group than in the HKC alone group at the 6-, 9-, and 12-month follow-up visits (p = 0.0448, 0.0002, and 0.0037, respectively), indicating the superiority of HBT + HKC over HBT alone. Furthermore, the ΔeGFR of the HBT + HKC group was significantly higher than that of the HKC alone group at the 6- and 12-month follow-up visits (p = 0.0369 and 0.0267, respectively). In the DKD G4 patients, eGFR was higher in the HBT + HKC group at the 1-, 3-, 6-, 9-, and 12-month follow-up visits compared with baseline, with statistically significant differences at the 1-, 3-, and 6- month follow-up visits (p = 0.0256, 0.0069, and 0.0252, respectively). The fluctuations in ΔeGFR ranged from 2.54 ± 4.34 to 5.01 ± 5.55 ml/min/1.73 m2. Change in the urinary albumin/creatinine ratio from baseline did not exhibit a significant difference between the two groups at any of the follow-up visits (p > 0.05 for all). Adverse event incidence was low in both groups.ConclusionThe findings of this study based on real-world clinical practice indicate that HBT + HKC therapy exhibited better efficacy in improving and protecting renal function with a favorable safety profile than HKC therapy alone. However, further large-scale prospective randomized controlled trials are warranted to confirm these results

Cytoplasm affects grain weight and filled-grain ratio in indica rice

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Cytoplasmic effects on agronomic traits -involving cytoplasmic and nuclear genomes of either different species or different cultivars - are well documented in wheat but have seldom been demonstrated in rice (<it>Oryza sativa </it>L.). To detect cytoplasmic effects, we introgressed the nuclear genomes of three <it>indica </it>cultivars - Guichao 2, Jiangchengkugu, and Dianrui 449 - into the cytoplasms of six <it>indica </it>cultivars - Dijiaowujian, Shenglixian, Zhuzhan, Nantehao, Aizizhan, and Peta. These 18 nuclear substitution lines were evaluated during the winter season of 2005 in Sanya, Hainan, China, and during the summer season of 2006 in Kunming, Yunnan, China. The effects of 6 cytoplasm sources, 3 nucleus sources, 2 locations and their interactions were estimated for plant height, panicle length, panicle number per plant, spikelet number per panicle, grain weight, filled-grain ratio, and yield per plot.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>For five of the seven traits, analysis of variance showed that there were no significant cytoplasmic effects or interactions involving cytoplasmic effects. The effect of cytoplasm on 1000-grain weight was highly significant. Mean 1000-grain weight over the two locations in four of the six cytoplasms clustered close to the overall mean, whereas plants with Nantehao cytoplasm had a high, and those with Peta cytoplasm a low mean grain weight. There was a highly significant three-way interaction affecting filled-grain ratio. At Sanya, cytoplasms varied in very narrow ranges within nuclear backgrounds. Strong cytoplasmic effects were observed only at Kunming and in only two of the three nuclear backgrounds; in the Jianchenkugu nuclear background, there was no evidence of strong cytoplasmic effects at either location. In the Dianrui 449 and Guichao 2 nuclear background evaluated at Kunming, filled-grain ratios of the six cytoplasms showed striking rank shifts</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>We detected cytoplasmic variation for two agronomically important traits in <it>indica </it>rice. The cytoplasm source had a significant effect on grain weight across the two experimental locations. There was also a significant cytoplasmic effect on filled-grain ratio, but only in two of three nuclear background and at one of the two locations. The results extend our previous findings with <it>japonica </it>rice, suggesting that the selection of appropriate cytoplasmic germplasm is broadly important in rice breeding, and that cytoplasmic effects on some traits, such as filled-grain ratio, cannot be generalized; effects should be evaluated in the nuclear backgrounds of interest and at multiple locations.</p

Intra-Familial Phenotypic Heterogeneity and Telomere Abnormality in von Hippel- Lindau Disease: Implications for Personalized Surveillance Plan and Pathogenesis of VHL-Associated Tumors

von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is a hereditary cancer syndrome with poor survival. The current recommendations have proposed uniform surveillance strategies for all patients, neglecting the obvious phenotypic varieties. In this study, we aim to confirm the phenotypic heterogeneity in VHL disease and the underlying mechanism. A total of 151 parent-child pairs were enrolled for genetic anticipation analysis, and 77 sibling pairs for birth order effect analysis. Four statistical methods were used to compare the onset age of patients among different generations and different birth orders. The results showed that the average onset age was 18.9 years earlier in children than in their parents, which was statistically significant in all of the four statistical methods. Furthermore, the first-born siblings were affected 8.3 years later than the other ones among the maternal patients. Telomere shortening was confirmed to be associated with genetic anticipation in VHL families, while it failed to explain the birth order effect. Moreover, no significant difference was observed for overall survival between parents and children (p = 0.834) and between first-born patients and the other siblings (p = 0.390). This study provides definitive evidence and possible mechanisms of intra-familial phenotypic heterogeneity in VHL families, which is helpful to the update of surveillance guidelines
